Write down the reason for a choice before testing it. Afterwards, compare the result with what you expected. Someone reading your record should be able to follow the change.

The leading interest areas are practical activity, investigation and creative work. These can connect with several fields. An engineer may compare a solution with physical requirements. A product designer may investigate what a user needs and test a design. A scientist may focus on explaining an uncertain result. The names overlap in places, but their main questions can differ.

Your next task is Compare choices using the same evidence. Begin with the complete subject combinations your school actually offers. For each, record what you would study, which parts of that work you have tried, where you need help and which later routes need those subjects. Keep an unanswered question visible until you have checked it.

Your relatives’ experience of engineering can help. Ask about an ordinary week of study or work, including difficult and repetitive parts. Ask what they wish they had understood before choosing. Then seek an equally detailed account of another route. One enthusiastic conversation should not be asked to settle the whole decision.

You have said that a different choice might disappoint your family. Your parents have also said they are willing to compare alternatives when you explain the reasons. Use that opening. Show them the comparison and the work behind it. Explain a preference as something supported by experience, while being honest about what you still need to try.

You do not need every mark to be perfect before you can have this conversation. You do need an honest view of the work a subject asks from you. Look at a mathematics answer, a practical task and a written explanation. Ask a teacher where your understanding is secure and which specific step needs practice. Then use the feedback.

In this sample you are completing MYP Year 5. A Diploma decision needs the full combination: six subjects, their Higher or Standard Levels and the core requirements. For a possible engineering route, check the exact mathematics course and level and the required sciences. Ask the school which complete combinations it can support.

The Indian course examples help you investigate future possibilities. Read beyond the title. Check the subjects, selection process and kinds of assignments involved. Requirements can differ between institutions and programmes. A course that interests you now should become a question to check, not a promise that admission will follow.

Over the next six weeks, finish the bridge explanation and try one different kind of task. It could be a user-focused redesign or a small scientific investigation. Compare what you enjoyed, what became difficult and how you responded to feedback. Keep the same questions for both experiences.

A considered choice does not have to copy someone else’s path. It does have to take preparation seriously. Your interest in understanding how things work gives you a useful way to approach this decision too: examine the parts, check the assumptions and explain why the result makes sense to you.

A future engineering route needs exact subject and entrance checks. Other institutions can have different routes.
Your next course-reading task

Choose two course pages that ask for different kinds of work. Record three modules or tasks, one demand you had not expected and one question for the school counsellor. Keep the exact links. This turns a university name into information you can use.

These are current course examples, checked on 17 September 2026. They do not establish your future eligibility. At this stage, a school task and a subject conversation are more useful than an application calendar.

Compare the complete cost

Your family’s budget was not supplied. At the right stage, compare tuition, accommodation, meals, materials and travel. Ask which charges can change. Keep a public-university or suitable college route in the comparison as well as private options.

Read financial-aid rules separately from admission rules. Record what documents are needed, when they are due and what an actual award would cover. Do not treat possible aid as money already available. Discuss the remaining cost before paying a deposit.
