What does it take to transform your mornings

Yes, seriously! Since I have started listening to podcasts, my morning jog has become more than just exercise for my body. It has become a time of learning, generating ideas and some deep thinking as well.

Listening to Nobel laureates, psychologists, New York Times bestseller writers and leaders from different fields is not only uplifting but insightful as well. Just today I was listening to Elizabeth Gilbert’s interview with Chris Anderson, Head of TED and I learned so much about creativity, love and grief. It gave me a new perspective on how I look at myself and my relationship with my loved ones.

However, there is so much stuff out there that it becomes difficult to sift through it. So, here’s my recommended list of podcasts. Not only have they helped me change the way I look at the world but they’ve also made me a better person (I hope).

TED Radio Hour

This was the podcast which got me hooked on podcasts. There is a central theme to every episode. It could be creativity, anger or how we define originality. Each episode gets TED speakers together for an in-depth, behind the stage conversation. They question our perception of reality and make us take a hard look at our belief system. Mind you, it does take an open mind to appreciate the conversations with Guy Raze.

On Being with Krista Tippett

We all have deep questions that keep nagging us. We keep searching for answers which may or may not be there. On Being is one such podcast, which helps us unravel the enigma of life. Every week the host Krista Tippett brings influential thinkers of our time and tries to answer those questions. For me, these conversations have therapeutic value. They bring order to chaos and are a gentle reminder that we as humans are more than our bodies and brains.

Hidden Brain

Shankar Vedantam uses science and storytelling to reveal the unconscious patterns that drive human behaviour, shape our choices and direct our relationships. In my view, this is one of the finest interview podcasts around. There are a plethora of topics to choose from. The episodes cover topics from politics to behavioural psychology and the conversations are intelligent, in-depth and help us manage our lives better.

The TED Interview

The show is hosted by Head of TED Chris Anderson. He interviews the world’s most interesting people to dig into the provocative and powerful ideas of our time. Listening to each episode is like going on a journey, which is both elating and exhilarating. The conversations are a deep dive into the ideas that are shaping our world right now.

Well, this is me and this is what I like. The sheer choice of topics which are available on podcasts is unbelievable. If you are interested in sports, health, meditation, music, business or anything else under the sun, you will surely find something, which matches up. In the meantime, share your top channels with me. Happy mornings!
