Course overview:

Workshop 1: Introduction to online and blended teaching

Online and blended learning undoubtedly requires a shift in how we teach and learn. There is a shift away from top-down lecturing and passive students to a more interactive, collaborative approach in which students and teachers co-create the learning process. The teacher’s role must change from the “sage on the stage” to “the guide on the side.” So how do we make this shift, what are the main differences, how do we best prepare ourselves and our students, what are the main skills required?

During this workshop you will learn:

  1. How online teaching and learning is different from traditional methods of learning.
  2. Different models and essential practices for teaching in online and blended learning environments.
  3. Skills required for online teaching.

Workshop 2: Techniques for researching and curating online material

Have a question? Go to Google. Simple isn’t it? In recent times, Google has become an extension of our minds. Search for any term and Google will throw lakhs of results at us. We must know how to sift through them and reach the most appropriate and relevant ones in a timed manner.

Once we have the information we have been searching for, we also need to organise, curate and store it efficiently.

You will learn:

  1. How to use Google and other search platforms effectively for researching the information you are looking for.
  2. Assimilating search results efficiently.
  3. Organise, curate and store content through the use of free tools.

Workshop 3: How to develop lesson plans for online teaching

A lesson plan is the teacher’s road map of what students need to learn and how it will be done effectively during class time whether online or offline. Having a carefully constructed lesson plan allows the teachers to enter the online classroom with more confidence and maximize their chance of having a meaningful learning experience with their students.

You will learn:

  1. How to identify learning objectives.
  2. How to structure your lesson and manage your time effectively.
  3. How to plan specific activities and assessments.
  4. How to measure the effectiveness of your lesson.

Workshop 4: A guide to delivering virtual lessons

The most important part of online teaching is, of course, the delivery. It requires you to choose the right platform or platforms that suit your needs, comfort and audience and develop relevant content to suit the learning environment.

You will learn:

  1. What different platforms are available for online teaching?
  2. Advantages and disadvantages of different platforms.
  3. Tips and tricks for conducting lessons online.
