Having worked as an English teacher for over 23 years and in the four corners of the world, I thought nothing could catch me by surprise but Dehradun certainly did! I now understand why it has earned its nickname, “Little Oxford of India”. But apart from being packed with education institutions, the city is surrounded by peaceful mountains perfect for trekking, crystal clear rivers for rafting lovers and small villages to nourish the spirit. I can say it has all the mod cons of a city but with the charm of a little town.
And if life in Dehradun is a pleasure, it is even better if you share it with students from all over the world! We are like a big family here at the Rosemounts’ hostel, with new members coming and contributing different experiences every other day.
This good vibe is extended to the classroom which has a lively mix of international and Indian students. It is a unique atmosphere that no other ESL (English as a second language) school provides. We conduct tailored lessons in an interactive environment, which enables students to communicate more freely in the classroom and to feel extremely motivated. We focus on their strengths but at the same time, we make sure they are being challenged. The teaching materials are easy to grasp, and the continuous support from my workmates has made my work fun and enriching and as easy as it can be.
I did not want to spend six months in a middling language school so I am pleased that I ended up at Rosemounts who aims to set the bar high. Here we identify where and why the students are struggling and do our best to meet their needs, customizing the lessons so that they reach their goals. I am a positive and encouraging teacher, so even though the lessons are intense and demanding, the students feel motivated and have fun learning.
As well as teaching General Conversational English I am also learning too, and have begun to prepare students for their IELTS, TOEFL and PTE exams, which is a great opportunity for me.
I have gained a wealth of knowledge and lifetime experiences working for Rosemounts – not to mention made many friends from around the world. Come and join us.
