Learning English can be fun.

Can learning English be fun, exciting and enriching? If your answer is “Yes” then India should be your choice of destination.

India because of its geographical and cultural extremes is a choice of thousands of students from all over the world.

India, as a country, is a university in itself. On one side you will find the Himalayas and on the other the desert and vast and beautiful shorelines. Nature has been kind to India. Rich wild life, pulsating cities are a salute to life. It is a shining example of a thriving democracy. Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Jews all live together in a balance which is rare and difficult to attain. It is one of the most peaceful country in the subcontinent.

Rose Mount is located in Dehradun just 200 Km from New Delhi. The city is a valley in the foothills of the Himalayas. Surrounded by forests and holy cities like Rishikesh and Haridawar, Dehradun is an ideal place to study. Due to its proximity to Himalayas the weather is mild unlike places like Delhi or Mumbai. It is quite, peaceful and safe. Dehradun is predominately a city for students. It is home to some of the best High schools, colleges and universities. Interestingly, it is called the Oxford of India.

Due to its colonial past India has a rich heritage of English speaking environment and is home to highly qualified English Language teachers. It may surprise you but it’s a fact that India has a bigger English speaking population than England! So if you had doubts about the quality of teachers I hope I have allayed them. At Rose Mount all our teachers are internationally certified. In fact we are the official prep centre for University of Cambridge English Language Examinations. We are also certified by QAI London, PTE and Alliance François. Our certifications should say a lot about our commitment to quality.

Rose Mount also provides accommodation with food. The students share the room on a twin sharing basis. The accommodation has a beautiful garden where they can enjoy some solitary moments listening to birds or studying or playing football! There is wifi connectivity both at the school as well as the accommodation. Staying in touch with family and friends is not a problem.

A typical day of a student at Rose Mount starts at 8 in the morning with breakfast. The students then leave for the school. Depending on their level of English and the course they have opted they are assigned different classes. The duration of classes is 5hrs each day from Monday to Friday. The evenings are usually free and the students can visit the market or cinemas with their new found friends.

There is so much to explore in and around Dehradun. Weekends can be jam-packed with activities like going to Rishikesh or Haridawar or Mussourie (a lovely Hill station) which are just a short ride away. Then there is the Buddha temple, the Jhanda sahib – a 500 year old archaeological wonder or the Tapkeshwar caves where hours can shrink into some moments. Then there are National wildlife parks where animals like tigers, deer, elephants thrive. Every fortnight such excursions are arranged by the school. The students are accompanied by teachers on any of the weekends to places of interest. Students who are adventurous can also plan treks into the mountains. In Rishikesh white water rafting, bungee jumping and camping is possible. So whatever your calling maybe Dehradun is an ideal place to be.

The English Language classes too are exciting. All our classes are activity based. Use of authentic videos, listening material make the classes fun. We believe that a language class has to be interactive and therefore loads of activities like pair and group work, discussions, one to one conversations are a regular part of teaching. The teachers make sure that everybody participates in the activities. Small groups help us in providing personal attention.

One more very interesting side of India is its festivals. Holy, the festival of colour is celebrated with lots of enthusiasm. People put ‘gulal’ – colour made of rose petals- on each other. The whole of India suddenly is painted in rich vibrant clours. Dewali- the festival of lights is also celebrated with much fanfare. Our international students have a great time. All the festivals are deep rooted in cultutre. So when you are in India make sure that you time your travel around these festivals.

Well, how can we forget food. India has something to offer to everybody. Whether you are a vegetarian or a non vegetarian or you have a sweet tooth, you can always find something to satiate your appetite. The food which is offered at the accommodation is freshly prepared and you would love it. At Rose mount you are also allowed to cook on Sundays. So you will have no reason to be homesick.

There is a range of courses which are offered at Rose Mount. The General English course is a good way of starting from the basic and developing all the four skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking. If you are short on time then the Intensive English course is a good way of improving your English communication skills with special emphasis on speaking. Dual programmes like English plus Yoga are also available. Please feel free to get in touch with us so that we can provide with the information you are looking for.
