The Duolingo English Test (DET) is an online, adaptive English proficiency exam accepted by thousands of universities worldwide. It's not a replacement for all situations — but for many students, it's the smarter choice.

This is the question that matters most. DET is widely accepted for university admissions — but visa acceptance varies by country. Know the difference before you decide.
95% of top 100 US universities accept DET. The F-1 visa doesn't mandate a specific test — if your university accepts DET, it supports your visa too.
90% of top Canadian universities accept DET. The Student Direct Stream (SDS) — which required IELTS — was discontinued in 2024. DET now works for study permits.
The Irish government officially recognises DET for student visa applications. 15 out of 18 universities accept it. One of the strongest DET-friendly destinations.
