A shared starting point
Before any longer programme begins, students need to understand why they are being invited into it and what they can expect. The Hopetown orientation was designed to create that shared starting point for Grades 6 to 8.
The session introduced students to Rosemounts and to the journey ahead in clear, age-appropriate language. It also gave the group room to listen, reflect and engage with the facilitator.
Curiosity before pressure
For students in the middle years, early conversations about interests, values, strengths and skills should open possibilities rather than narrow them. The orientation therefore framed the process as exploration, not a demand to decide on a career.
A calm beginning helps students approach the later stages with greater honesty and less pressure. That makes the work more useful for the students and for the adults supporting them.
The work continues
The orientation was one moment in Rosemounts’ ongoing work with Hopetown Girls’ School. The next steps will continue through the pathway agreed with the school, with each stage helping students build a clearer understanding of themselves and the opportunities around them.
